A young Norfolk couple moving into their first home together have become the 100th household to move onto the new Swan’s Nest development in Swaffham, where Norfolk-based house builder Abel Homes is creating a new community of 250 highly sustainable new family homes.

27 year-old Sian Smith and her 25 year-old partner Alex Williams chose Swan’s Nest after a friend who had bought an Abel Homes house in Hingham recommended the builder – and knew as soon as they saw Swan’s Nest that they wanted to live there.

“As soon as we walked into the show home, that was it,” said Sian.  “We had seen a few developments, but this felt different.  The houses are not so squished in, there is plenty of space, and the quality is tremendous.  There was just something here that the other developments we saw didn’t have.”

Sian, who is a pharmacy technician at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, and Alex, who is an operations manager at Royal Mail, were both living with parents prior to moving to their new home, which is a two-bedroom semi-detached house with a detached garage.

Swan’s Nest was launched in 2015, and will eventually see 250 new homes built across the 50 acre site on the southern edge of the town, close to Nicholas Hamond Academy.

The new homes are highly sustainable, with a top ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency, boasting features such as solar panels, triple glazing and high levels of insulation.  Each home is also being built with fibre optic cabling to the door.

Welcoming the couple to their new home, Abel Homes chairman Tonty Abel said, “I am delighted that Sian and Alex chose Swan’s Nest for their first home together, and I wish them every happiness as they build their lives together.

“It’s not unusual for buyers to come to us on the basis of a recommendation from someone who has already bought one of our homes.  We work very hard to provide a quality product and a level of service which is market-leading, and the runaway success of our Swan’s Nest site is testament to us getting that right.”
