Norfolk House Builder Carries Off Two ‘Pride In The Job’ Awards

Pride in the Job winners Tim Walsingham left and Danny Pinner right with Abel Homes managing director Paul LeGrice sm

Two construction site managers from the same Norfolk-based house builder have been recognised as amongst the best in the UK, both winning prestigious ‘Pride in the Job’ Awards from the National House Builders Confederation (NHBC).

Tim Walsingham and Danny Pinner both work for Watton-based Abel Homes, and the pair will now go forward to the NHBC’s ‘Seal of Excellence’ Award (an accolade which Mr Walsingham has also won for the last four years in a row), the next stage in the annual search for the best site manager in the UK.

The pair have now notched up a staggering 12 Pride in the Job Awards between them.

Mr Walsingham, from Yaxham, is senior site manager at the firm’s Swan’s Nest site in Swaffham.  This is the seventh time he has won a Pride in the Job Award.  He joined the firm in 1999 as a digger driver; he is currently in charge of a site where 427 new homes are being built.  For the past three years he has also carried off the title of Best Regional Site Manager in the medium-sized builder category for East Anglia and the East Midlands.

Mr Pinner, from Castle Acre, joined Abel Homes in 2001 as an apprentice carpenter, working his way up to become senior site manager.  This is the fifth time he has won a Pride in the Job Award.  He is currently overseeing the firm’s Taursham Park site in Taverham.

The Pride in the Job Award is given following a ‘Michelin Guide’ style inspection by a NHBC inspector, who assess site managers against 38 strict criteria, including workmanship, excellent leadership skills, technical expertise, the ability to turn the designer’s intentions into reality, good health & safety standards and a commitment to raising standards.  The scheme has been running for more than 40 years.

Abel Homes managing director Paul LeGrice said, “Very few Pride in the Job Awards go to smaller house builders, so to win two is a reflection of the effort we put into keeping very high standards at all of our new home developments.

“We are very proud of both Tim and Danny for their achievements in winning the award yet again.  They have both worked their way up to their current positions during their time at Abel Homes, which is credit to their hard work, enthusiasm and great attitude.”
