Abel Homes is an independent, family-owned house builder creating contemporary, energy-efficient new homes across Norfolk. Founded in 1992 by chairman Tony Abel, we have spent more than three decades building a reputation for high-specification, award-winning homes that are thoughtfully designed for the way we live today. Every Abel home is carefully considered by our architects for practical, comfortable living with low energy consumption and low maintenance — and is backed by the personal service that only a local, independent builder can offer.
Three Decades of building communities across Norfolk
Over the decades we have created communities in market towns and villages right across the county — from Dereham, Swaffham and Watton to Attleborough, Fakenham, Thetford, Mattishall, Bawdeswell and the villages surrounding Norwich. Our developments range from intimate schemes of just a handful of individually designed houses to thriving new neighbourhoods. That breadth of experience — including our award-winning, Conran & Partners-designed hus22 development near Norwich — means we know how to create homes and places that genuinely enhance their surroundings and stand the test of time.
Energy-efficient homes that cost less to run
Long before low-carbon living became headline news, Abel Homes has been building some of the most energy-efficient homes in Norfolk. Today, every home we build is EPC A-rated — the highest energy-efficiency band — as standard. We achieve this through a fabric-first approach and a specification that includes air source heat pumps, solar PV panels, high levels of insulation and triple glazing, keeping running costs low and comfort high throughout the year. For our customers, that means a warmer, greener home and significantly lower energy bills; for the environment, it means a meaningfully smaller footprint.

We care just as much about the places we build in: our Good Neighbour Charter ensures we keep disruption to a minimum while we work, and our long-running public art programme has commissioned more than 15 original, locally made sculptures and artworks for the heart of our communities.
