A construction site manager who was last year named as one of the top site managers in the UK has won a prestigious ‘Pride in the Job’ Award from the National House Builders Confederation (NHBC) – the fifth time he has been awarded the accolade.

Tim Walsingham, who is senior site manager at Watton-based Abel Homes Swan’s Nest site at Swaffham, will now go forward to the NHBC’s ‘Seal of Excellence’ Awards (an accolade which Mr Walsingham also won in 2018 and 2019), the next stage in the annual search for the best site manager in the UK.

Last year he carried off the title of Best Regional Site Manager in the medium-sized builder category for East Anglia and the East Midlands.

Mr Walsingham, from Yaxham, is senior site manager at the firm’s Swan’s Nest site in Swaffham.  He joined the firm in 1999 as a digger driver; he is currently in charge of a site where 427 new homes are being built.

The Pride in the Job Award is given following a ‘Michelin Guide’ style inspection by a NHBC inspector, who assess site managers against 38 strict criteria, including workmanship, excellent leadership skills, technical expertise, the ability to turn the designer’s intentions into reality, good health & safety standards and a commitment to raising standards.  2020 is the 40th year the award scheme has run.

Abel Homes managing director Paul LeGrice said, “Tim is widely recognised as one of the very best site managers in the business.  It is a huge achievement for him to win a fifth Pride in the Job Award, which comes after he came within a whisker of being named the best site manager in Britain last year.  We are hoping he can go one better this year and carry off the national title.

“Tim has worked his way up to his current senior position over more than two decades with Abel Homes, which is credit to his hard work, enthusiasm and great attitude.  We are very proud of him.”
