Work Starts On 28 New Homes In Little Melton

A local parish councillor and a local house builder have broken the first ground on a site in Little Melton where 28 new energy-efficient family homes are to be built.

Little Melton Parish Council chair John Heaser joined Paul LeGrice from Watton-based Abel Homes to dig the first sod on the site, on Mill Road in the village.

The new development, which will be called ‘The Limes’, will comprise 28 two-, three, four- and five-bedroom houses and bungalows, all of which will have the top ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency.  The new homes will include features such as photo-voltaic solar panels, triple glazing and high levels of insulation, and will also feature fibre broadband direct to each home.

As part of the development, Abel Homes will create a public open space on the site, and has also made a commitment to provide a piece of public artwork on every site where it builds homes.

Helping to dig the first sod, parish council chair John Heaser said, “We are very pleased that this site is being developed by a local house builder, who have worked hard with us to meet various concerns expressed by local residents.  We are very grateful to them for their help and co-operation, and also for their commitment to providing affordable homes as part of the development.”

Abel Homes managing director Paul LeGrice added, “Little Melton is such an attractive place to be building new homes, as it retains a village community feel, despite being so close to Norwich.

“To remain vibrant, the village needs good quality, affordable, energy-efficient homes, and that is what we are building here.

“We have built a really good working relationship with the parish council here, to ensure that we pitched our plans just right for the local community – something we are in a good position to do, as we live and work locally and therefore really understand Norfolk’s housing needs.”

The showhome at The Limes will open in the spring; further details of the new homes available will be made available at www.abelhomes.co.uk
