Sales & Purchase Ledger Assistant
Abel Homes are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sales & Purchase Ledger Assistant with a strong knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing both supplier and customer accounts, ensuring accurate financial records, and maintaining compliance with HMRC CIS regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger Duties
- Processing high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Matching, batching, and coding invoices to purchase orders
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies
- Preparing and processing weekly/monthly payment runs (BACS/CHAPS)
- Maintaining supplier records and ensuring data accuracy
Sales Ledger Duties
- Raising and issuing sales invoices
- Posting customer receipts and allocating payments
- Managing customer accounts and credit control activities
- Chasing overdue payments and resolving invoice queries
- Producing aged debtor reports
CIS Responsibilities
- Verifying subcontractors with HMRC
- Processing subcontractor payments in line with CIS rules
- Preparing and submitting monthly CIS returns
- Ensuring compliance with current CIS legislation
General Finance Duties
- Assisting with month-end procedures and reconciliations
- Maintaining accurate financial records and audit trails
- Supporting the finance team with ad hoc tasks
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies
Candidate Profile
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in both purchase ledger and sales ledger roles
- Strong working knowledge of CIS (essential)
- Experience within construction or related industry (preferred)
- Proficiency in accounting software and confident with Excel spreadsheets
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal (in person and telephone)
Qualifications
- AAT qualified
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English
- Full UK driving licence
- Must be within a commutable distance of Watton
